CAMPS FOR BEGINNERS

ToucheOlympic Sport Fencing Camp
Monday - Friday
9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Fencing is an Olympic sport, often called the game of physical chess. It improves coordination, balance and reflexes. This camp covers primarily foil, a light thrusting sword, but also introduces sabre, the modern equivalent of the cavalry sword, and epee, the modern equivalent of the rapier. Students are introduced to footwork, handwork and strategy formation. By the end of the camp, students will be fencing and refereeing actual bouts.

Equipment
Provided equipment includes a fencing jacket, mask, and safety-tipped foil.  It does not include a glove.  A work or gardening glove that completely covers the entire hand may be used.  Fencing gloves may be purchased on-site starting at $20 each.

Historical Swordsmanship Fencing Camp
Monday – Friday
12:30 pm – 3:30 pm

This camp explores the following historical weapons: the rapier, the traditional Renaissance dueling sword and the two-handed sword, a Medieval longsword. Students are introduced to historical swordsmanship based on Renaissance and Medieval techniques. By the end of the camp, students will understand different styles of swordsmanship used throughout history.

Equipment
Provided equipment includes a fencing jacket, mask, safety-tipped foil, and bamboo shinai. It does not include a pair of gloves. Work or gardening gloves that completely cover the entire hand may be used. Fencing gloves may be purchased on-site starting at $20 each.

What to Wear
Comfortable athletic pants such as sweatpants, warm-ups, or leggings must completely cover your legs and allow you to stretch and move with ease, clean athletic shoes with non-marking soles, and a glove are necessary. Students without gloves or those wearing shorts, jeans, dress or casual pants, or non-athletic shoes will not be allowed to participate.
