National Fencing Foundation

The National Fencing Foundation of Washington, D.C., Inc. is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to developing the personal character, academic achievement and athletic excellence of our youth through the sport of fencing.

Athletic and Academic Excellence
NFFDC offers fencing as an extracurricular activity at area schools. We at The National Fencing Foundation of Washington, D.C. are committed to providing a program that is both exciting and challenging to your students.

About the Sport
Fencing is a fast paced sport that builds coordination, balance, poise and sharp reflexes. It develops quick thinking and self-confidence, and it is also incredibly fun! It is known as the game of “physical chess”. This is because each movement involves developing a strategy as well as using handwork and footwork to win. Fencing is an Olympic sport that is rapidly growing in the US. The United States fencing team won six medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics for the sport of fencing, including two gold medals.

About the Program
Our course is designed to give students an introduction to the world of fencing. They will learn footwork, handwork, strategy, rules and terminology. By the end of the class they will be able to fence and referee matches (called “bouts”) with each other. Protective masks, jackets and safety tipped swords make fencing one of the safest sports. We will make sure that it is a fun physical workout as well as an educational experience.

We can provide a program that can be tailored to meet your needs and grade level requirements. The course length, as well as the duration of class time, is flexible.

WE PROVIDE:

  • Professionally Trained Coaching Staff
  • All Necessary Equipment
  • Advertising
  • Insurance
  • Individually Tailored Course Instruction

There is absolutely no cost to the school. Each participant will pay a fee for the course. Scholarships are available to eligible students. We provide all of the marketing materials to advertise the class. Even more, for the opportunity to conduct this class we will provide a free demonstration for your entire school.
